ONE LAST SUMMER IN MÉJEAN
A Crime Novel, ca. 350 pages
Spring 2019

The first stand-alone novel by bestseller author Cay Rademacher

A thirty year old murder in an idyllic fishing village on the Côte Bleue, five friends who are forced to confront the truth, an inspector who wants justice.

EVIL UNDER THE SUN IN PROVENCE

Summer 1984. After their A-levels, six German friends travel to the South of France, to stay at a holiday home on the coast. All they want is one last holiday together before their dreams of university and jobs disperse them all around the world.
One night, Michael Schiller goes for a swim by himself in a dark cove – and never returns. The next morning, his body is discovered. Someone has attacked and killed him. The police investigates, but never finds the perpetrator. There isn’t even a suspect, and certainly no motive.
Summer 2014. The five survivors have lost contact long ago. Some of them established great careers and have even become famous. Others failed. But 30 years after the murder they all receive anonymous letters that blackmail each of them in such diabolically ingenious ways that they feel they have no other choice but to return to Méjean, to the same house. There, so the unknown letter writer, they will finally find Michael’s killer.
The same unknown writer also sends an anonymous tip to the Marseille police. Commissaire Marc-Antoine Renard is sent to Méjean, a detective who only very recently survived cancer and who is still ailing so much that his boss doesn’t trust him with a real investigation. Renard goes to Méjean where he meets the Germans. He wants to know who these people are, and who wrote these letters. In order to do that, he penetrates deep into the past and present of foreigners and locals alike. Renard then risks his own fragile life to catch the killer, in the same cove where Michael Schiller died so long ago.
