Capitaine Blanc investigates in his 8th case a murder in one of France’s prettiest villages

Blooming almond trees, and terrible crimes …

An art theft and a family secret lead Blanc to an old unsolved case

The 8th volume in the bestselling series!

It’s February in Provence – spring has arrived, and the almond trees are in bloom. And Capitaine Roger Blanc and his colleagues are called to Les Baux. In a gloomy valley below the famous ruined castle is Carrières de Lumières, an abandoned quarry which is now used for art exhibitions. During a recent show at the site, a man was mugged and brutally murdered. Blanc soon establishes that the victim was Pat-rick Ripert, a private detective. The wealthy owner of a nearby almond orchard had engaged the detective just a few days earlier, following the theft of an oil painting from his extensive collection. How does it all fit together? After a while Blanc comes across a crime even more brutal than Ripert’s murder. Seven years ago, a whole family was slaughtered in one of the bloodiest incidents in French criminal history. The murderer subsequently disappeared in Provence – and not a trace of him has been seen since. Until now? Are Ripert’s murder and the art theft linked to the half-forgotten crime?
