Silverview House is a progressive old people’s home in need of a bit of culture - at least, that’s the view of former feature editor and new resident, Friedhelm Klemp, who has his sights set on staging a production of Hamlet. He is supported by his unrequited lover, Katia Horenfeld, who manages to bring together a colourful troupe of different characters. Yet the first rehearsal coincides with a gruesome crime: Ophelia, a pug belonging to one of the players, turns up dead. The results of the autopsy, performed by a retired dentist with a fancy manicure set, are met with shock and horror: the dog has been shot. It’s a clear case of murder. Katia, pegged for the role of Hamlet, is also expected to carry out the ‘investigation’. Meanwhile, ever more inconsistences begin to emerge. Katia is still considering how best to proceed when the next body is found.
