Vom Wasser - From Water
The Book

The dramatic story of a paper dynasty is told by a character who is magically drawn back to waters near his home. The storyteller resurrects portraits from a gallery of ancestors before our very eyes. He recalls summer scenes from his youth and imagines how it could have been back when his great grandfather discovered on his estate between the rivers Orpe and Diemel, how water could be transformed into paper and paper into money. Or how the son of a baroque paper magnate saved the firm during the first World War with his sober understanding for numbers. He recalls when the tradition of ascendency of the industrialists' first born was threatened by the next war, and an industrialist who was infatuated with the muses. He recalls a woman who brought about a provisional rescue.
